Christmas Box WrapUp

On behalf of Metro Kids Africa and all the children who received shoeboxes, I want to say a big thank you to all at Southpoint. You have helped give 600 plus Christmas gifts this year, to the children who attend Sidewalk in Lower Crossroads and Khayelitsha.
From the wrapping and packing of the shoeboxes session to the actual handing out of the gifts SP people have been fantastic. What a privilege for us here at Metro to have you on board helping us.
For those who came and helped give out the gifts I am sure it will make a lasting impression. As the gifts arrived at the Lower Crossroads site, 400 children on a dirty, open field started cheering with their faces lit up with excitement when they saw cars piled high with gifts. There were sighs and screams of pleasure as they opened the lids of the shoeboxes and peeked inside.
Khayelitsha’s giving out day was much more calm and ordered and the kids hugged and thanked the SP people there as they received their gifts. The leaders have had parents coming to their houses thanking them for the gifts, it has made such an impression.
So a big thank you from us all for what seems so little to us but means
such a lot to hundreds of children.

Thanks Giving 2009

As I look back on 2009, I am amazed at the road God has brought us down. Many people gave generously to Mountain Move and we were able to create some really great and comfortable environments where MORE people were able to grow in their relationship with Jesus Christ. Our numbers show about a 60% growth in Waumba Land, 30% growth in UpStreet, 200% growth in Inside Out since it began and a 10% growth in Adult worship attendees. We also added 11% to our community groups and have about a 30% increase in the number of giving units.

This is phenomenal growth and stands us in great stead for the Open Road in 2010.

The promise the Lord gave us from Isaiah 54:2 is still front and centre ( 2 “Enlarge the place of your tent, stretch your tent curtains wide, do not hold back, lengthen your cords, strengthen your stakes.”).

The leadership is unanimous in its decision to hire Mutualpark for another year and we feel that we are now hitting the OPEN ROAD and will gather momentum. (Isaiah 57: 14 Someone says: “Build, build! Make a road! Clear the way, remove the rocks from the road my people will travel.”)

The “BOAT LOAD” of fish is coming!

Here is a great letter of thanks to the good people from the Intersect GlobalX mission team. The group came over from Northpoint Ministries – with whom we are an international partner, and were involved in identifying and helping out in Community Projects – The Intersect Project was the name of the overall project. The below letter was from Kathy; a member of Southpoint Church:

I want to start by saying a Huge thank you. I have spent my whole 35 years in South Africa. I have traveled overseas, I have done charity work, I give to the poor and yet I have never been to an Orphanage let alone into a location.

Giving from a Distance always seems the safer option. I really felt like I was out of my comfort zone today in Khyalitsha, the sad part being that it took a group of Americans interested in helping OUR community to get me there.

You must understand I went with great hesitation as I have a knack for attracting and collecting stray animals, and I was not sure if I could trust myself with 100 orphaned children. I am so relieved to say that I have come away from there not wanting to save these kids, as it was shown to us how well they are taken care of, there is so much love and warmth there. There are definite needs that need to be met and I would love to get involved to help where I can.

I am very troubled with the thought that there are child headed homes and I think this is what God wanted me to hear today. I am extremely happy that Rossie is going to be concentrating on this in the near future and I would love to help out here.

Once again thank you and to all from Atlanta, it was a really true experience, one I will never forget.

Very Exciting times are upon us at church and this Sunday is no exception . In place of the second service there will be an Annual General Meeting where, amongst other things, the new name and the new logo will be discussed.

After much deliberation, voting, discussion, rethinking, twists, turns, dead-ends, and consideration we arrived at the following (click them for a bigger view):
