Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world. James 1:27

At Southpoint Church we want to partner with organizations with a proven track record of meeting social needs. We would like to encourage each Community Group to do at least two Intersect projects during 2010.

Intersect is an aspect of Southpoint Church that is growing as we explore various NGOs and the work they do in Cape Town. We desire to provide your group with information and opportunities to have a positive serving experience. We currently have four different Intersect opportunities for your group to choose from.

The Warehouse aims to see the holistic transformation of communities through the church. Book your regular weekly group meeting with Carolyn at The Warehouse. You will learn more about how best to serve the needs of the poor in greater Cape Town and the work of The Warehouse. Bring your snacks – the Warehouse will provide great coffee for you. Bring your clean, gently used clothing, shoes, and household items. After the information session, Carolyn will help your group sort and organize some parcels that are given through churches in needy areas to families in need.

Rainbow House is a safe home for approximately 10 abandoned, abused or neglected babies and young children. You can help support Rainbow House, and learn more about what they do, by attending a breakfast one Saturday per term from 9 – 11am at Rainbow House, 49 Alice St, Goodwood. To find out when the next breakfast will be happening and to book your place, contact Alison Alexander (below).

Or, schedule your regular group evening at Rainbow House and give their volunteers a break. The men in your group can help out with various items of home maintenance while the women bathe the children, read them bed time stories and put them to bed. Alison or another key worker will give you complete instructions as you plan an evening of serving.

Camp Sonshine is serving children in Maitland Garden Village, a community right next to Pinelands, between Vincent Palotti Hospital and Alexandra Hospital, with a daily after school club, holiday camps and tutoring for children at Garden Village Primary School. Alison, who attends Southpoint Church, would love for your group to help with specific projects, building enhancement and maintenance or maybe an outing with a group of children during the term.

Metro Kids seeks to introduce kids in the townships to Jesus Christ via their weekly Sidewalk ‘Sunday’ schools which are held every day of the week. Each week they minister to around 4,000 children and are actively involved in leadership development with 70+ teen leaders. Janet & James Senior, who attend Southpoint Church, welcome your group to get involved in various ways. Some ideas include purchasing and preparing food parcels for needy families, providing ongoing help with homework for Metro Kids teen leaders, and helping in preparation for the annual Christmas gift distribution.
