What is INTERSECT?
INTERSECT projects provide opportunities for individuals and Community Groups at Southpoint Church to impact our community with the love of Jesus Christ through service or giving, or both.
There are currently two exciting opportunities for you to impact Cape Town in a significant way:
1. Fill a Handbag for SAFELINE SAFELINE http://safeline.org.za/ is a non profit organisation providing counselling and advice services in disadvantaged communities in the Western Cape for child victims of abuse. SAFELINE is hosting a ‘Party with a Purpose’ on 9 August, Women’s Day, for survivors, counsellors and parents of abuse victims.
For their party they would like to give each woman attending a handbag containing some (or all) of the following: Soap, face cloth, lotion, tissues, toothpaste, tooth brush, perfume, etc. This does not need to be a new handbag, but one in good condition – most of us have far too many handbags anyway!!
SAFELINE is looking for approximately 200 filled handbags. Our goal at Southpoint Church is to provide 50 filled handbags. We need these handbags by the 31 July so that they can prepare for the event on 9 August.
Craig Poulton from Southpoint, serves on the board at SAFELINE where they “teach each and every one that JESUS loves them and has a purpose for them. This ministry is based on FAITH in CHRIST. I believe that we can make a difference and it would be most appreciated if we could support this event.”
You can bring your filled handbags to the church by Sunday 31 July or make arrangements to drop them off at 23 Stellenberg Road.
2. Participate in an Extreme Makeover of Baphumalele Children’s Home in Khayelitsha.
This event is sponsored by Heart 104.9FM in association with local non-profit NEWKIDZ on the Block and the MySchool Fundraising Programme. They are aiming to have over 1000 volunteers participating in 3 hour shifts over the weekend of 29 July – 1 August to revitalise this home for abandoned children. This is a unique opportunity to use your time and skills and join with others in Cape Town to make a difference. Community Groups can sign up to participate together.
